Eggbert
by LAF . . . Just who is LAF?
LAF
is actually Lester A. Friedman, a businessman who loved drawing cartoons on
cocktail napkins. In fact, that’s how
Eggbert was born. He came to the attention of Mr. Percy Barker who was the
owner of Monogram of California, a company that printed humorous cocktail
napkins (among other things). Eggbert’s cocktail napkins were an instant
hit. They were so much of a hit that, in
1959, the first Eggbert book was published. Seems so long ago but the humor in
these cartoons is every bit as great now as it was then. A few of the cartoon captions
have been updated to be more topical, but the majority of them remain the same.
